TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A body was found in a wooded area after local officers reported an unattended fire on Saturday.
According to Terre Haute Police Department Sgt. Justin Sears, THPD officers responded to the report of an unattended fire near Dever Distributing off of Fruitridge Ave. and Beech Street around 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 9.
While searching the area, the officers discovered the body. Sears noted that the THPD is working with the Vigo County Coroner’s Office to identify the person but that the remains found were in a state of decomposition that would require more testing for identification. The person has not been identified and no other information was provided as the investigation is ongoing.
Sears also said that an autopsy was done and there are no signs of foul play and there is no threat to the community regarding the investigation.
