GREENE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Greene County Humane Society is offering the community a fun way to spend time with their pets or potential pets.
The Waggin’ Tails Trail is a ½ mile-long looping trail that the humane society has made and opened to the public to bring their pets, or to spend time with dogs they may be interested in adopting.
“We installed it around 2020 and it’s really changed our adoptions and it’s gotten a lot of animals into homes that otherwise wouldn’t have,” Kegan Inman President of the Greene County Humane Society board said. “When we can get an animal out on the trail we can really see the true dynamic. It’s given animals more of a chance to get adopted,” Inman added.
To help raise funds and awareness for the Waggin’ Tails Trail, the humane society will be holding its first Haunted Trail event that will take place from 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27, and Saturday, October 28.
Inman, who ran a haunted house for 11 years, also noted that the trail will have multiple scenes and actors set up along the path, but that this is not a pet-friendly event.
The cost of the event is $10 per person and children 5 years of age and younger can participate for free. Inman said that 100% of the proceeds will go to the shelter.
The trail is open to the public 7 days a week from sun up to sun down. Pets must be kept on a leash at all times and be picked up after. To learn more, visit the Waggin’ Tails Trail Facebook page.
