THFD respond to titanium container fire at Terre Haute Regional Airport

Local News

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Fire Department responded around 10:45 a.m. to Terre Haute Regional Airport for a small fire inside one of the airport buildings.

According to Terry Coker, THFD Deputy Fire Marshall, employees at Stark Industries were doing grinding work a little too close to a storage container of titanium, causing the container to catch fire.

Titanium is reactive to water, Coker said, and the fire caused sprinklers to go off. Fire crews had the scene under control in around two minutes, according to Coker, and no injuries have been reported.
