TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Fire Department responded to a fire that took place in the 1400 block of S. 1st Street around 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

According to THFD Chief Bill Berry, the firefighters had to force their way through a gate before gaining access to the fire which was in a small room. Berry also noted it took around 10 minutes to put the fire out.

The building was reported to be vacant and showed no signs of squatters.

Berry reported there were not any injuries and that the cause of the fire was suspected to be arson.
