‘That process is in its initial phases’: A new solar farm could be coming to Sullivan County

SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A new solar farm could be coming to New Lebanon in Sullivan County, Ind.

Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions Business Development Manager Isaac Leuthold said DESS is working on a tax abatement request to bring a solar farm to New Lebanon.

“That process is in its initial phases,” Leuthold said. “Duke Energy sustainable solutions has submitted the tax abatement application and it will be pending until county review.”

Although the topic hasn’t been brought up in an official Sullivan County Council hearing, Vice President of the Sullivan County Council Logan Pearison assured New Lebanon citizens that the council will keep their best interests in mind as this process moves forward.

“It’s important for the council to support New Lebanon,” Pearison said. “It’s one of our smallest districts and it’s growing so we have to make sure that we support New Lebanon.”

This process is still in its early stages and Leuthold said that a project like this could take years to complete.

“We’re already a few years into development and we expect a few more years of development before construction would begin.”
