TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — You can help feed homeless veterans in the area with a canned food drive on Saturday.
The drive is being held by the Loyal Veterans Battalion in Terre Haute which works to provide food and clothing to homeless veterans and those in need.
The organization is grateful to the community for supporting this effort. Last year’s food drive collected over 1,200 pounds of food and they hope to surpass that this year.
“The food is so important for us because every time that we have an issue day, we not only issued clothing but we issue food. We have an emergency food bank that people can access every Tuesday night from six to seven. If someone’s in emergency situation we have numbers that they can call. We provide food for two to three days,” Michael Egy, Administration Coordinator of Loyal Veterans Battalion said.
The Loyal Veteran’s Battalion canned food drive will take place Saturday, October 7, at Baesler’s Market from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The organization said canned goods with pull-top lids are best so recipients don’t even need a can opener to open them.
