TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Terre Haute woman has been arrested on preliminary charges of murder after police said she stabbed a man who later died from his injuries.

According to Terre Haute Police, officers were called to a residence in the 600 block of S. 20th Street on Friday for a reported stabbing. Police said they quickly located both the victim and reported suspect.

While the victim, Wasu W. Laplante, 38, received medical aid on site before being transported to a local hospital, police said he died from his injuries shortly after.

The suspect, Nichola Leroy, 39, is reportedly a distant relative of Laplante. They had been living together in the residence. Leroy was taken to the Vigo County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder.

Vigo County Courts ordered Leroy held in custody at the Vigo County Jail with no bond as the state has 72-hours to file official charges. Those charges are due by Thursday.
