TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Terre Haute Police Department on Wednesday afternoon alerted the area of a phone scam that has targeted local residents, seeking hypothetical due back taxes.
“We understand there are several calls being placed to individuals by people who claim they are with the IRS,” THPD warned. “The caller threatens the victim with law enforcement if they don’t pay “their taxes” over the phone. Please verify with the IRS (or any organization) prior to ever giving money.”
THPD issued the warning on its Facebook page.
