Terre Haute plant continues talks with potential buyer to prevent closure

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – One Terre Haute company is continuing talks with a potential buyer in an attempt to stay in operation and save more than 80 jobs.

Columbian Home Products, LLC, notified the Indiana Department of Workforce Development of the potential closure back in September. At that time, it was announced that terminations were scheduled to begin by Dec. 1 if the business was not sold.

According to company CEO Dick Ryan, as of Thursday 15 employees have been laid off, though he said those layoffs were seasonal cutbacks.

Ryan noted the company is still in talks with a potential buyer. He is hopeful a deal can be reached by the end of the year.

According to it’s website, Columbian Home Products makes kitchenware products. There are additional locations in Wisconsin and California. The corporate office is located in Illinois. The Terre Haute location has been in operation since 1903, Ryan said.
