TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Capital Improvement Board on Wednesday heard an update on the construction of the convention center.
Crews have made progress in the installation of various necessities with the goal of working toward an April 2022 completion. Vigo County Capital Improvement Board members are pleased with results thus far.
“You drive downtown and you see this huge project coming to fruition and I think it’s a testament to the workforce,” said David Patterson, executive director, Terre Haute Convention and Visitors Bureau. “We’ve assembled a good team of people and it showed in terms of being on time and under budget.”
For the conventions center’s general manager Tennille Wanner, she and her team are focused on business details.
“Going through and just doing all the pre-planning. trying to predict all of the things that you might need,” Wanner said, “because we’re not hosting events yet so it’s really trying to understand the building. Understanding what those needs might be.”
Making sure there is an ample amount of supplies for the construction was one topic of discussion at the meeting on Wednesday. Patterson said Garmong Construction was thinking ahead which could help the project in the long run.
Wanner said although they can’t yet say what the first event at the convention center will be, they are following a few different ideas.
