TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Residents can help make a difference around the world and here at home simply by donating a pair of shoes.

The fall homecoming queen, Bella Toth, and homecoming king, Kavish Reddy at Terre Haute North have started a tradition to support a charity of their choice.

This year they’re supporting the Arts in 12 Points and a non-profit called Soles 4 Souls. The school is collecting new and gently worn used shoes that will be sent overseas for people in developing countries.

It’s a competition between the school’s four classes and the winning class will get a monetary gift for their class treasury.

The homecoming queen explains why they wanted to help the Soles 4 Souls organization.

“It’s important for us to give back. Seeing the different types of situations that others are in makes us better people and giving them, helping them with something they need. We never know what they need what kind of situation or circumstances they’re in,” said Toth.

Terre Haute North will be collecting shoes at its homecoming game on Friday.
