TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Old Dam Community Band from Newburgh, Ind., will perform a free concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 alongside the Terre Haute Community Band at Fairbanks Park.
The two bands will perform different pieces, including jazz and swing numbers performed by the band from Newburgh. Additionally, the Terre Haute band will play an Olympics champions theme as well as the world premiere of an original composition titled “To New Beginnings” by young Terre Haute composer Jack Nesser.
Nesser said the piece was written to express the excitement felt when we were able to return to normal everyday activities with our families and friends after the COVID-19 pandemic. Nesser said he felt people should “look forward to a regeneration of life” and “celebrate the little things we once took for granted.”
The concert will commence with theOld Dam Community Band playing “I Remember Clifford” with a flugelhorn solo by Alan Phillips. Their playlist also includes Hoagy Carmichael’s “Georgia on my Mind” and a medley Tribute to Count Basie.
