TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The streets of Terre Haute received a cleaning thanks Saturday to a semi-annual event.
Volunteers took part in a city wide cleanup that was hosted by the city of Terre Haute, Republic Services and the “Keep Terre Haute Beautiful” organization.
Residents picked up litter and disposed of unwanted items. Hazardous waste including tires, chemicals, refrigeration units and batteries were not taken.
“It’s very important for the city,” Dollie Mundy, Terre Haute Police Department office manager, said. “We try to do it twice a year in the fall and in the spring, so that we can clean up the residents neighborhoods and the city and just keep it clean so that kids aren’t playing in the trash.”
More than eight dumpsters were filled during the cleanup.
