TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– St. Benedict’s Catholic Church hosted dozens of people Saturday Morning as a part of their first free breakfast event of 2023.
The church holds the event the 4th Saturday of every month. Linda Gorrell, who helps organize the event, said a community has grown over time as they’ve continued to host.
“Our patrons, I just love interacting with them and touching base with some of them that I know from over the years to see how they are doing,” she said. “Just interacting with them, it’s just a blessing to us.”
Volunteers from the church were joined by the Rose Hulman Volleyball team, who helped distribute food. Gorrell said the event wouldn’t be possible without help from different community organizations and partners.
“We get money from different people and different businesses to help put this on, so it’s not just us who are doing the giving,” she said. “It’s businesses within the community that help us be able to serve.”
The church also hosts a soup kitchen every Monday through Friday, from 11-12:30.
