TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — This weekend you’ll see hot air balloons over Terre Haute, and you can even take a ride in one, should you choose.
The first Terre Haute Balloon Festival will get underway Friday and continue into Saturday at Terre Haute Regional Airport.
Gates open at 4:30 p.m. each day, with the event running from 5-10 p.m.
Events include an evening balloon “Glow”, live music, food trucks, and more. Visitors can even purchase tickets to take tethered balloon rides. Of course, the Glow events and tethered rides are weather permitting.
Brandon Halleck with Chances and Services for Youth said the initial idea for the event took off quickly.
“We love aviation, and things of that nature, and how would it be to actually have balloons coming into Terre Haute? It’s been a long time since we’ve had that and so we just decided let’s just go ahead and do it and see how the community reacts to it and so far it’s been very positive results to that.”
Online ticket sales end Wednesday night at midnight. Tickets will be limited at the gate, so visitors are encouraged to buy them online in advance. For more information, visit the Balloon Festival website here.
