TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Saturn Petcare is requesting a 10-year tax abatement for its Vigo County location.
The request took place at the Vigo County Council’s Sunshine meeting that was held at Terre Haute City Hall on Tuesday.
If approved, the abatement could help Saturn Petcare bring a $42 million investment into the community and add 50 additional jobs.
Saturn Petcare COO Andy Volkl expressed his desire to make a big impact in Vigo County and to show the community that it wants to build a partnership.
“It’s our job as an employer to give back to the community,” Volkl said. “For us, we want to build a strong partnership with our community.”
Volkl said that Saturn Petcare produces roughly 500,000 servings of pet food per day. That number could more than double if the abatement is approved.
He mentioned that they’re working to double the number of production lines that they have with the possibility of expanding the exterior of the facility later down the road.
“We’re currently investigating doubling the production lines,” Volkl said. “We’re also investigating adding on additional buildings but we’re going step by step.”
Vigo County Councilman Todd Thacker said that the discussions at the sunshine meeting were positive. He said that he’s still looking to learn more about Saturn Petcare could bring to the community.
“I’ve got to go back and do some calculations now and before the next meeting and to see if this is good value or not a good value for the community.
The next Vigo Council meeting is scheduled for November 9th.
