TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Families in and near Terre Haute can learn more about sustainable gardening while having a good time at April’s Ryves Youth Center Family Night.

The event will be held Wednesday, April 20, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at the center located at 1356 Locust Street.

In addition to a meal, children will be given the chance to decorate planting pots and learn how to grow herbs in their own home. Herb seeds will be provided at the event for kids to plant and watch grow. Adults at the event will be invited to a presentation by Purdue Extension Vigo County about ways to garden sustainably at home in small spaces.

“We know that a diet rich in fresh vegetables is beneficial in a variety of ways and we are excited to share some ideas that families can use to grow their own at home,” said Agency Director John Etling. “It’s important for children to learn where their food comes from.”

All families are encouraged to attend Family Night. Activities begin in the lower level of the Ryves Youth Center.
