TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: Students and staff at Ivy Tech in Terre Haute were evacuated following reports of a suspicious backpack, according to the Vigo County Sheriff.

Vigo County Sheriff John Plasse confirmed an investigation was underway into reports of a suspicious backpack. Both campuses in Vigo County were evacuated, but Plasse said the threat was to the main campus.

Seargent John Newman with the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office said there have been 4 to 5 bomb threats made to Ivy Tech campuses throughout the state Friday. The initial report came in via a 9-1-1 call that reported a backpack wired to a device, however, Newman said officers never found a backpack of that sort during their investigation.

An official with Ivy Tech confirmed that several campuses across the state received bomb threats Friday, but that following evacuation and investigation in Terre Haute, law enforcement had given them the all-clear.

The situation began around 2:15 p.m. as of 3:10 p.m. Sheriff Plasse states the scene had been cleared.
