Suspected drunk driver crashes into deputy vehicles following 2 county pursuit

PARKE COUNTY, Ind. — A suspected drunk driver led authorities on a 38 mile pursuit through Parke and Vermillion counties before crashing into two patrol vehicles.

Parke County deputies early Sunday morning attempted a traffic stop on Ferndale Road on a vehicle driven by Donald Sutherland, 37, of Brazil.

Sutherland continued driving. When he reached Vermillion County, he rammed his vehicle into two deputy vehicles. Sutherland’s vehicle spun out of control before coming to a stop on State Road 63 south of Main Street.

Sutherland was taken into custody and transported to the Parke County Jail on charges of resisting law enforcement, operating a vehicle while intoxicated, reckless driving and criminal recklessness. He will also face charges in Putnam and Vermillion counties.
