TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/ WAWV) – Terre Haute Police announced Tuesday that the suspect accused of shooting and killing a local 20-year-old has been taken into custody.
Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Kole Hughes, 20, of Lafayette, for the charge of murder in regards to the July 31 shooting death of Quincy Rogers-Porter at 19th And Walnut Streets.
Detectives also secured warrants to search his home in Lafayette and collect DNA from his person.
Authorities said that detectives developed Kole Hughes as a person of interest during the investigation and, with the assistance of the Lafayette Police Department, began surveillance on his residence in Lafayette.
Detectives reportedly informed members of the Lafayette Police Department once warrants were obtained.
At approximately 3:00 pm Tuesday, LPD took Hughes into custody after seeing him drive away from his residence.
Hughes was allegedly taken into custody with a firearm in his possession.
Terre Haute detectives later executed a search warrant at his residence and brought him back to Terre Haute.
He is now being held in the Vigo County Jail awaiting his initial court appearance.
Prosecutors said the investigation indicated a prior relationship between Hughes and the victim.
Police believe the victim was targeted rather than a broader attack on members of the community.
