CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Construction begins July 8th and 10th on three state routes in western Indiana. INDOT said state route 246 is scheduled to open later this month but state routes 59 and 163 will be under construction until late this year.
They say 59 will be done this September and 163 will be finished in November 2019.
INDOT said 163 will take longer due to a new bridge being reconstructed and widened. They said Monday July 15 one lane of the bridge will reopen for traffic.
Jason Tiller said anyone who is traveling this summer should go to INDOT’s website to see what routes are under construction. He says all current projects are listed there and drivers are able to look for alternate routes there as well.
Construction typically last for months and can inconvenience some businesses who use state routes.
Nutrien Ag Solutions, located on 246 and just outside of Clay City, travels state routes with heavy and wide equipment to farms in the region. State road closures can cause a long delay, and sometimes disrupts travel completely due to weight limits on county roads.
Location Manager for Nutrien Thad Shidler said drivers have to find an alternative route to travel every year. He says construction is the biggest problem they face in the summertime when it comes to business.
