SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Residents in the city of Sullivan can once again dispose of unwanted items as part of the 3rd annual month-long cleanup effort in the month of May.

The city began the program in 2020 and has been very successful over the past two years. Sullivan residents can bring authorized items and trash to the City Garage to be disposed of free of charge. Dumpsters will also be available for use.

“Every year, we look forward to our month-long cleanup. This is ‘spring cleaning’ elevated, and it allows our citizens to get rid of items they no longer want or need, specifically, items that are sometimes hard to discard,” Sullivan Mayor Clint Lamb said. “We’ve found over the years that offering an entire month-long cleanup allows every citizen to take advantage of the opportunity at their convenience.”

The cleanup lasts for the entire month of May. Participants must be Sullivan residents in order to take advantage of the service, IDs will be checked. There will be dumpsters for regular trash and a dumpster dedicated to metal. Participants are required to unload items themselves and are encouraged to bring help if needed. There will be equipment to help lift heavy items from vehicles if needed.

Citizens are encouraged to come to the Sullivan City Garage located at 317 S. Broad St. and place their trash in the available dumpsters.

The schedule is as follows: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. with extended hours on Thursdays from 8:00 am – 7:00 pm. One Saturday will be offered for citizens on May 21st from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm (noon).

Items not accepted include construction debris, building materials, paint, tires, ammunition, liquid waste, electronics, hazardous waste, air conditioners and refrigerators. Acceptable bulk items include household furniture, mattresses, large toys, carpeting tied in three-foot bundles, and appliances not containing chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrofluorocarbons (HCFCs).
