SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Every new military recruit deserves a proper send-off and Wednesday, high school seniors in Sullivan County received one, thanks to some caring community members.
Organizers say they’ve been holding the event for the past four years, but Wednesday’s event was filled with a little extra love. That’s because the annual event wasn’t held in 2020 due to COVID-19.
“We’re just really proud to have all of this community support; all of the people that show up to be here for this. It’s really important. Obviously the military- it’s awesome,” event organizer Cindy Julian said.
With fewer recruits this year, organizers say the event is more important now than ever, to show them they’re appreciated.
“Just to support them and enjoy the time you have with them because life changes when they leave,” event organizer Danielle McKinney said.
Every branch of the armed services included and organizers say they’re pleased with the community support every year.
