TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local philanthropic group is helping a soup kitchen to secure more room for storing food.

On Monday, Guys Who Give Vigo County donated $5,900 to St. Ben’s soup kitchen in Terre Haute.

The money will go toward installing a walk-in freezer. As the soup kitchen serves more people, it has seen a need for more freezer space.

Terry Hogan is a member of Guys Who Give and his wife is in charge of the soup kitchen.

“They’re incredibly grateful. They’ve been there 26 years, and sometime in May or June, they will have served their one-millionth meal,” Hogan said.

St. Ben’s soup kitchen re-opened on Monday after electricity was restored to the building. The building was without power following a fire in a basement window’s air unit.
