GREENE COUNTY, Ind. – The Indiana Department of Transportation announced a complete road closure is scheduled for State Road 54 in the Ridgeport community for a geological slide repair.
Beginning on or around Monday, Sept. 16, contractors will begin work to repair a slide in the soil under S.R. 54. Temporary repairs were made to the location earlier this summer, after a small hole opened up do to geological movement.
INDOT maintenance crews repaired the road, and after a short closure to ensure safety of motorists, the road was reopened to one lane controlled by temporary signals.
As a part of this project, the temporary signals will be removed and the road will return to a complete closure.
All traffic control devices will be in place around the clock. Heavy traffic should use the official detour using U.S. 231, I-69 and S.R. 45. An unofficial detour using Crowe Road will be available for local traffic.
Depending upon weather conditions, work to correct the slide is scheduled to last until the end of November.
