ST-MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local college is introducing some new majors, minors, and concentrations to their curriculum.

St-Mary-of-the-Woods is now offering additions to its academic programs and is expecting to see the changes implemented starting this fall. Multiple programs within the university can expect to see the changes implemented soon, including the Equine Department, The Business Leadership Department, Biology majors, and the Kinesiology Department.

The Equine Department will now offer a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Vet Medicine. The program will begin to utilize the large animal classroom which will provide a space for pre-vet students to get important hands-on experience.

The Bachelor of Science in Pre-Vet Medicine program is being added alongside the Bachelor of Science in Equine Science which is the only program of its kind in Indiana. More developments in the Equine Department include minors such as Equine Breeding and Management and Equine Therapeutic Riding.

“The faculty are constantly working to improve the offerings of the College through expanded degree programs as well as minors that will complement a student’s academic interests to assist them upon graduation,” said Janet Clark, Ph.D., provost/executive vice president for student affairs, noted that SMWC continues to review academic programs for improvements.

Other departments like the Business and Leadership Department will be adding a minor in Digital Marketing to collaborate with the 10 majors and six minors that are currently offered and are available through on-campus courses or through Woods Online.

Biology majors will have the option of several concentrations including a general concentration, a pre-professional concentration, and a biostatistics concentration. While the Kinesiology Department will be offering concentrations in Exercise Science, Health Science, and Recreation Science.
