ST. MARY-OF-THE-WOODS, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — It’s a special time at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods as the Sisters of Providence celebrated the Feast Day of Saint Mother Theodore Guerin.
There was a special mass this morning to celebrate her life and legacy. Mother Theodore Guerin is Indiana’s only saint and one of eight saints in the United States.
Tuesday was a time for the Sisters of Providence to celebrate what Saint Mother Theodore Guerin has meant to them all these years as they continue the ministry she established of love, mercy, and justice.
“We not only celebrate what she did 183 years ago but it’s an opportunity for us to do some reflection of our own. How are we carrying out her legacy today? She walked these woods just like we are, she established a religious community of women, established a lot of schools in Indiana and we’ve tried to carry on that legacy,” said Sister Dawn Tomaszewski, General Superior of Sisters of Providence.
Sisters of Providence was joined by their friends from the College Providence Health Care and St. Mary’s Senior Living for the mass.
