KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Vincennes woman was arrested for multiple crimes after leading Knox and Gibson County officers on a pursuit.
According to a release from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, Gibson County officers had requested backup following a pursuit of a suspect that had been involved in a shoplifting incident at the Princeton Walmart resulting in the battery of 2 employees around 5:45 p.m. on Monday, March 13.
Michelle Williams, 55, of Vincennes, had fled the scene and headed north on US 41 where deputies attempted to use stop sticks to disable Williams’ vehicle near Airport Road. The stop stick attempt was unsuccessful and Williams continued driving at a high rate of speed before crashing into a barrier near Cannonball Bridge.
Police said as they exited their vehicles, Williams reversed her vehicle, striking a Princeton Police car. Officers were able to stop Williams and transported her to a nearby hospital for medical clearance, and then to the Knox County jail.
Michelle Williams has been booked on the following charges:
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated with bodily injury (level 6 felony)
- Resisting law enforcement with an automobile [fleeing] (level 6 felony)
- Reckless driving (misdemeanor)
- Criminal mischief (misdemeanor)
- Criminal recklessness (misdemeanor)
