A settlement has been reached and new expectations have been set in a lawsuit against Vigo County Jail conditions and overcrowding.
New court filings show all parties have reached a settlement agreement for personal injury claims in the case, and a settlement conference scheduled for next month has been canceled.
Earlier this year, it was ruled that the jail was in violation of inmates rights and ordered the County to move forward with plans to build a new jail.
Tuesday, during a status conference, a judge told the County to have a site selected by mid-May.
The County will also be required to file a status report on the last business day of each month. The monthly updates will include the status of acquiring property for the new building; the frequency and duration of recreation outside of cell areas offered to prisoners; incident reports involving prisoner violence; current number of jail employees; and proposed designs for the new jail.
