BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Police in the city of Brazil are urging residents not to send funds in response to a letter being sent to their homes that claims to be in support of “Brazil Area Police Officers.”
In a post to Facebook, police posted images of what the letters look like.

“I am guessing that you, as a law-abiding citizen, are as concerned as I am about skyrocketing violent crime — including in Brazil,” the letter begins before relaying a story of a shootout involving police that allegedly occurred in Phoenix, Arizona.
The letter then asks the reader to return a sheet giving the sender permission to put their name on a list in support of the police, as well as asking for a monetary donation.
The Brazil Police Department advises anyone who receives these letters to discard them and to not send funds in response.
“We appreciate all of the support and assistance our community provides, however, we are NOT sending donation requests at this time,” the post reads.
