VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Salvation Army of Vigo County is looking for volunteers for an upcoming event this weekend to benefit those in need.
This Friday and Saturday, November 17 and 18, all of the money raised at several local businesses will be matched up to $2,500 dollars, dollar for dollar. The effort is a part of the annual Red Kettle Campaign.
Those participating locations include Baesler’s Market, Hobby Lobby, Kirby Food in West Terre Haute, along with Walmart and Sam’s Club.
All of the money raised goes to serving Vigo County families in need. Corps officer with the Salvation Army of Vigo County, Captain Jeremy Fingar, expressed their need for volunteers to meet their goals.
“It takes about 5,000 hours of bell ringing to raise the $125,000 that we need and we have a small staff that we employ but more than half of those hours are taken up by volunteers, so 2,500 hours of volunteerism is needed to meet the goal. So we are always in need of additional volunteers,” Fingar said.
Those who would like to sign up for a volunteer shift can visit the Salvation Army’s Register to Ring webpage, or call the Vigo County Salvation Army at 812-232-4081.
