TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Drivers near the construction site of the new Terre Haute Casino Resort have likely noticed road work underway.

Terre Haute City Engineer Marcus Maurer said the project will extend New Margaret Drive from the roundabout to the backside of the casino’s property.

Maurer added that a second project is still underway to widen the roadway on Margaret Drive to accommodate the increased traffic expected in the area by adding a turning lane to the northern side of the road.

Maurer said lane shifts will be used to prevent any major impacts on local traffic while work is being done.

The section of road being worked on is located between Sycamore Terrace Drive and Rockwood Lane. Maurer said while the work is being performed by a group contracted by the casino, the city is still overseeing progress.

“We’re supervising the work, to verify that it’s built correctly, the road is the correct thickness and such, because ultimately the roadway will be city property,” Maurer said.

Maurer asked that drivers approaching the area slow down and be cautious to keep the work crews safe.
