FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — UPDATE: Thanks to numerous organizations and generous individuals the Road to Recovery Telethon was a huge success.

As of 7 p.m. Wednesday, the telethon had raised $64,394 for the Wabash Valley Community Foundation and the Crawford County Annex.

The money will go directly to residents in the communities impacted by the March 31 EF-3 tornado.

WTWO General Manager Tim Sanders said that in addition to area businesses and individual donations, WTWO’s parent company Nexstar Broadcasting helped with the effort.

“Nexstar has really stepped it up,” Sanders said. “We’ve been in this community for almost 60 years. This is the second station that [Nexstar] bought so it really comes close to home for Nexstar as a company. The Nexstar community foundation really stepped up with $10,000. I couldn’t be more proud of our company, just the viewers and everyone donating, this has made a huge impact.”

Original: A large number of organizations, groups, and individuals have stepped up to donate their time, essential items, and money towards the cleanup and recovery efforts of the Robinson, Ill. and Sullivan, Ind. communities following a deadly EF-3 tornado that left devastating destruction in its path on March 31.

But, even with such an outpouring of support, more is needed.

In response to the need, MyWabashValley.com, WTWO, and WAWV will hold a telethon in partnership with First Farmers Bank & Trust to help raise funds for both communities.

The Road to Recovery Telethon will be held Wednesday, April 12, starting at 6 a.m. (EDT) and running until 6:30 p.m. (EDT).

All money raised during the telethon will go to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation and the Crawford County Annex to ensure the money remains in the communities impacted by the storm.

Donations can also be made in person at any First Farmers Bank & Trust location throughout the day Wednesday.
