BRAZIL, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Firefighters from multiple agencies have responded to the scene of a camper fire that quickly spread to other structures in Brazil.
The fire occurred in the backyard of a residence in the 8900 block of North Murphy Road.
According to the Clay County Fire Department, all roadways are now currently open as of 6:45 p.m. To allow for crews to have space to work the Clay County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that portions of North Murphy Road were closed while a section of East County Road 900 N. had been closed due to traffic.
Jackson Township Volunteer Fire Department chief Ryan Shepherd commented on the incident, noting that the fire started in a camper and quickly spread to neighboring homes and structures. Shepherd also noted that while there were no injuries some people have been displaced.
Officials said the fire began as a camper fire before catching a nearby shed on fire as well. Jackson VFD, Brazil, and Van Buren fire departments all have responded to the scene.
