TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — People in Terre Haute will have the opportunity to join the American Red Cross Disaster Response Team as a volunteer through an upcoming training event.
According to a release from the Red Cross, there will be a disaster response training session held on Thursday, November 18 in Terre Haute at the American Red Cross Office located at 2800 Poplar St., Suite 7D.
The training will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and participants will learn the skills needed to respond to the immediate aftermath of a disaster. Those in training will learn the step-by-step process to respond to a disaster with lessons on the distribution of meals, sheltering, and more from experienced instructors and members of the Disaster Action Team.
While 90% of the Red Cross workforce is made of volunteers, there is no previous experience needed. The disaster training is designed to give trainees the skills needed to respond and aid those impacted by both local and national disasters including tornadoes, home fires, floods, hurricanes, and more.
Those interested in the American Red Cross Disaster training can register online to create an ID through the Red Cross and sign up as a volunteer.
