TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A date has been set for a public grand opening of the new Terre Haute Convention Center.

The opening is scheduled to take place on April 9. The hours are yet to be determined.

General Manager of the project Tennille Wanner said it will be an opportunity for the public to see the inside of the convention center and envision events that the space will be able to host.

“It’s really great to see a community that’s really excited about the convention center and what we’re hoping is that folks will see what we have to offer here and think about the events that they attend every year, whether they’re going to Indianapolis or another city, and let’s see how we can bring those events home and we can host those here,” Wanner said.

One event that has already been announced is the Professional Firefighters Union of Indiana Conference set for May of 2023. Wanner said the convention center is in talks with organizers of about 20 other events.
