TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – With weather varying between warm and cold temperatures lately. Gardening can be a difficult task if you don’t know how to prepare.

We spoke with Tom Cummins Co-Owner of The Apple House in Terre Haute, to see what tips and tricks he has picked up over the years. Cummins said with the warm temps in February, it’s nothing to get too worried about.

Some flowers are tougher than you may think. One of their most popular flowers, pansies, can actually survive during temps in the upper 20s. If it’s any colder than that, Cummins suggests to cover them with a cloth covering.

When it comes to vegetables, he also said it’s nothing to worry about.

“If you’re looking at doing some landscaping, things of that nature. Getting it in the ground sooner rather than later is the way to go. That way you can get more root growth before the hot summer weather gets here,” Cummins said.
