TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A tree falling on a power line is reportedly the cause of a power outage affecting almost two thousand customers on the east side of Terre Haute Friday.

The outage affecting a total of 1,965 customers was first reported at 3:18 p.m. according to Duke Energy’s outage map.

The outage stretched from near the Terre Haute regional airport to parts of S. Fruitridge Avenue, and ran from as far north as part of Deming park to E. Margaret Drive at the southern tip.

Rick Burger with Duke Energy says the cause was due to a tree falling on the circuit near Deming Park in Terre Haute. He says power should be back up by about 5:30 p.m.

As of 4:25 p.m. the outage map is reporting only 61 customers still affected by the outage.
