VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — UPDATE: Richard Sandlin has been arrested.

According to the Terre Haute Police Department, before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, members of THPD’s detective division were assisted by the US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and the Indiana State Police in finding and arresting Sandlin.

He was arrested near Gallagher Road and Rio Grande Avenue in northern Vigo County. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Sandlin on charges of Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun.

According to officials, he has been questioned in regards to the homicide of Donald Riley and was transported to the Vigo County Jail.

Sandlin had an active arrest warrant for probation violation on an unrelated case.

Prior to 9 P.M., members of our detective division were assisted by the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force and the Indiana State Police in locating and arresting Richard Sandlin. Sandlin was taken into custody near Gallagher Road and Rio Grande Avenue in northern Vigo County. He has been questioned by our detectives regarding the homicide of Donald Riley and transported to the Vigo County Jail. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Sandlin on charges of Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun. Sandlin already had an active warrant for probation violation on an unrelated case.

ORIGINAL: Several law enforcement agencies were actively working a scene in the area of East Rio Grande Ave and Gallagher Road on Wednesday evening.

Sgt. Matt Ames with Indiana State Police said the reason for the heavy police presence in the northern part of the county was because of a wanted person search.

Ames confirms one person was taken into custody.

Authorities would not say who the wanted individual was, but the suspect was arrested by the Terre Haute Police Department.
