TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A house fire is being investigated by police as a possible arson following an investigation by fire officials in Terre Haute Monday.
According to Terre Haute Fire Chief Bill Berry, the call came in at around 1:30 p.m. Monday, reporting a residence on fire located in the 2000 block of N. 20th Street. The house was found to be vacant with no one inside at the time of the fire.
According to Assistant Chief of Investigations Brendon Lloyd, it took firefighters only about 10 minutes to put out the fire. “It was pretty obviously an incendiary fire,” said Lloyd.
That ruling of being “incendiary,” Lloyd clarified, is the term used by firefighters when considering a possible arson, which is a criminal term.
The Terre Haute Police Department has confirmed that a detective is investigating the incident as a possible arson case.
While there was minor damage done to the structure, Lloyd stated that the damage made the home unlivable.
