PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Police have identified the Parke County deputy involved in an exchange of gunfire with a suspect on August 5.

Parke County Sheriff’s Deputies were responding to a domestic situation on East South Street that night. Police say when deputies arrived, 35-year-old Chad M. Fiscus of Rockville began firing an assault rifle at the deputies.

Indiana State Police say Deputy Darian A. Lewellen of the Parke County Sheriff’s Department was involved in the gunfire exchange with Fiscus. Deputy Lewellen has been placed on administrative leave which is customary in an officer involved shooting. He has served with the Parke County Sheriff’s Office for two and a half years.

Police say Fiscus died in the exchange. A deputy was wounded in the incident and taken to the hospital where he was treated and released later that day.

Indiana State Police say the investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time.

When the investigation is complete, Indiana State Police will submit a report of the incident to the Parke County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
