Plans for a new dog park in Collett Park are being finalized

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Collett Park Neighborhood Association presented an updated plan on Wednesday for a potential dog park at the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Board meeting.

Ann Welch, President of the Collett Park Neighborhood Association, said that a dog park in Collett Park has been a possibility for years.

“We’ve probably talked about it for five years,” Welch said. “We’re trying to figure our things that we could do to spark more interest into Collett Park.”

The CPNA currently has a $15,000 budget for a potential dog park.

Welch cited issues with the dog park in Fairbanks Parks as an essential reason to build one in Collett Park. She said that a lack of shade and space would be harmful to both dogs and dog owners.

“We like using Collett because we have a lot of shade in our area so the dogs won’t be overheated,” Welch said.

Welch said that she hopes to begin construction on a new dog park next spring, but the final proposal still would need approval from the Terre Haute Parks and Recreation Board.
