April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, and one area facility is working to raise awareness about the issue.
Thursday, members of the public were invited to plant pinwheels outside Harsha Behavioral Center in Terre Haute.
The pinwheels represent the happy childhood that all children deserve. It is an issue very important to Harsha.
“Child abuse, any type of abuse, triggers mental illness, and we see a lot of that in the psychiatric hospital,” said Mel Kirchner, director of engagement at Harsha. “So, it’s important to bring awareness so we can treat it properly.”
Harsha officials hope to make the pinwheel planting an annual event.
