UPDATE: All lanes are open according to the Indiana Department of Transportation.

According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, the lane closures involved two separate accidents. The first was in Morgan County at the county line. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Dept. is investigating the wreck and no details have been shared.

The interstate was shut down due to that crash causing a backup. Putnam Co. deputies along with Cloverdale Police responded to the second crash which was a result of the traffic back-up.

A semi failed to stop in time, striking several other vehicles that were already stopped in the backup. Minor injuries were reported in that incident.

PUTNAM CO, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — According to Sergeant Matt Ames, Indiana State Police are responding to a personal injury accident on Interstate 70.

It is at the 48-mile marker eastbound. Interstate 70 is temporarily shutdown.

Drivers are asked to seek an alternate route while emergency crews clean up.
