PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Parke County Sheriff Jason Frazier said no foul play is suspected after deputies completed their investigation into the death of an older couple near Lyford.
Frazier said deputies initiated the investigation following a welfare check in which deputies were sent to a residence on US 41 south of Lyford. The Lyford Fire Department was brought in to help deputies get into the home. Inside the home, deputies found a woman, 85-year-old Donna Long, “in dire need of medical attention” and the body of her husband, 88-year-old Edward Long, who had already died.
Donna was taken to a nearby hospital but reportedly died the following day.
According to an online obituary, both Edward and Donna were lifelong residents of the area, having been born in Terre Haute. Columbia House, Bemis Company, and Reynolds Machine Company were listed as past employers in the obituary.
An autopsy was performed, and as a result, Frazier said no foul play is suspected to be involved in the deaths.
Parke County EMS and officials from the Debaun Funeral Home assisted at the scene.
