Severe weather conditions resulted in power outages in the Terre Haute area

WABASH VALLEY (WTWO/WAWV) — Customers with multiple electrical utility providers are experiencing outages Monday afternoon throughout the Wabash Valley due to severe weather conditions.

WIN Energy customers in both Sullivan and Vigo counties were experiencing outages, with over 100 customers affected in Sullivan and over 75 affected in Vigo. The cause of the outages, representative Leslie Beard said, is broken poles and crews are currently either on the scene or on their way to fix the damage and solve the outages.

Duke Energy customers meanwhile experienced outages throughout the Wabash Valley. At the height of the outage over 3,000 customers reporting outages in the Terre Haute area, according to the company’s online outage map.

Rick Burger, Duke Energy manager, said a lot of the damage was wind-related. Currently Duke Energy crews are in Terre Haute cleaning up and working to get power back on to residents. He said power should be restored to residents within the next few hours.
