Organizations help residents prepare for Thanksgiving

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local residents were able to get an early start on Thanksgiving on Saturday with the help of local businesses and organizations.

Catholic Charities, B&S Plumbing and Heating and the Terre Haute Rotary Club worked to distribute over 400 turkeys to residents at the Benjamin Franklin Elementary School.

Event organizers said cars began lining up as early as 6 a.m. Over three dozen volunteers worked to distribute food to the community.

There were many different items distributed to make sure people were able to have a traditional Thanksgiving feast.

“We made sure that we got fully cooked turkeys because some people may not have an oven or some capacity to bake the turkey, so I feel certain that this will bring a lot of joy to a lot of families,” Sally Stewart, co-owner of B&S Plumbing and Heating, said.

Coming up in December, there will be a ham distribution to help families prepare for Christmas.
