VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office teamed up with the United State Marshal’s Service Wednesday for Operation Child Safe to ensure compliance of registered sex offenders in the county.
The operation, which paid special attention to sexually violent predators, resulted in two arrests and nine investigations being opened into offenders suspected of giving false information.
James Cooper of Terre Haute was arrested for an out of state warrant while Steven Hejari of Terre Haute was arrested for dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, possession of a stolen firearm and maintaining a common nuisance.
“The purpose of this operation is to keep Vigo County residents, especially our children, safe,” Sheriff John Plasse said. “We thank the US Marshal’s Service for their continued support and assistance in achieving this goal. Because of our combined efforts, Vigo County is a safer place to live, work and raise a family.”
