SULLIVAN County, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office received a call to respond to Bear Run Coal Mine to assist with an accident that resulted in the death of an employee.
According to a post from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, around 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, local law enforcement arrived and was told by the medical emergency services on the scene that the employee involved in the accident had been hit with a large piece of equipment and that the individual was pronounced dead at the scene before emergency responders arrived.
As the Mining Safety & Health Administration (MSHA) conducts an investigation into the incident, all mining operations are suspended.
The identity of the employee has not been released.
