One in custody after hitting bicyclist in Vincennes

Local News

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vincennes police reported Monday that one woman is being treated for her injuries after she was struck by a vehicle while riding her bicycle.

Police said the incident happened just before 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning when they responded to the 1700 block of Hart Street in reference to an unresponsive female.

Upon arrival, police said they found the woman on the ground bleeding. While medical personnel were tending to the woman, police located a vehicle in the area with front end damage and multiple people gathered around it.

Police discovered that the driver was still there, and that the unresponsive woman was most likely the victim of a hit and run. The woman was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital and later flown to Evansville, Ind. for further treatment.

Police conducted sobriety tests on the driver, which they allegedly failed. The driver was placed under arrest and is being held at the Knox County Jail.

The driver, who Vincennes police identified Tuesday as Rebecca Workman, 32, Vincennes, Ind., now faces charges of:

  • Operating While Intoxicated causing Catastrophic Injury, Level 4 Felony
  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Level 4 Felony

The name of the victim is not being released at this time.
